I'm sick and tired of US politics
Hey there, I usually don't post in this blog because I do other stuff on the Internet, but this is something that I want to talk about because I find this personal. I will be talking about serious topics such as gun violence, suicide, and murder, so consider this your warning.
I am writing this post amidst the Charlie Kirk situation that has happened in the past few days, and I would like to talk about how politics fucked up my mental health. So, in regards to the Charlie Kirk situation, I have rather mixed feeling about it. Yes, Charlie Kirk's political beliefs were absolutely fucked up and should be called out for, but they way this was handled wasn't the best way. And it is due to this situation that I am reevaluating the way I see politics.
Throughout this past year, I have lashed out in social media posts regarding U.S. politics and censorship, telling people to harass the government, specifically those who support Donald Trump. I've even contemplated violence against far-right/alt-right extremists. Sure, I could have clicked out, but nooo, I was feeling super frustrated about the situations.
I am glad to be in a blue state, but that "privilege" won't stop me from feeling bad for minorites such as the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, women, and people of color. I just don't want them to suffer, and I certainly don't want them to commit suicide. And to those who are contemplating suicide because of what's happening in the U.S., please don't. Know you are more than your problems and there are people who care for you. Also, there are resources for those who are contemplating suicide, so please use them.
I just want to have a good time on the Internet without being bombarded by bad news. I want to look at Frutiger Aero without thinking about by trans homies having their rights stripped away by some stupid laws or the Trump Administration cutting funds. And I am also sick of seeing videos of people talking about certain issues even if it doesn't affect me. Look, I get being aware of those situations and finding ways, but I just don't want to hear about it and feel bad.
Don't even get me started on the people who say that "we're cooked", because it implies that they are okay with giving up, and that they're okay with being oppressed because it doesn't matter. No, we shouldn't give up because the government is making us feel powerless, we need to fight back, even if it's hard. Revolutionary optimism is a thing, learn it.
From now on, I am blocking anything that involves U.S. politics. This means muting posts on social media or blocking news channels. This isn't me not caring about the future of my country or minority rights, this is self-care, and I'm gonna say it: your mental health matters more than politics. You don't have to fight everything all at once, nor do you have to suffer looking at news. Remember that a majority of the news is fake and sensationalized, and if you ever come across news that majorly upsets you, take a breather and process your feelings. Please, don't be like me and lash out against people, just find something else to do. Sometimes, you just gotta take a break.

That's all I have to say. Stay safe, and fuck the alt-right.
